My name is Sienna, I am 14 years old and in 9th grade at Ocean Grove Charter School. I have been dancing since I was almost 12, which is relatively late to start dance, but I was very shy when I was younger. Then I went to see the Nutcracker and realized “I want to do that!” I took a ballet class at The Dance Center and loved it! I performed in my first Nutcracker that year and found I really enjoyed being a part of the production. Performing on stage makes me happy and I hope that it makes the people watching happy as well.
This year will be my fourth Nutcracker and I am very excited to be a Lead Chinese - my first lead role en pointe! I am also a Mouse and Snowflake. I feel it has come full circle because I was part of the Chinese Corps and a Fight Scene Soldier for my first Nutcracker and now I get to see the other side of the scene and be one of the big kids the younger dancers can look up to. I also can’t wait to be on stage when the snow is falling; it is magical.
I love ballet because it is a beautiful art form and I enjoy learning new variations and the graceful movements. Dance has helped build my confidence and MPBT has been a big part of that. I am very happy to have been chosen as a Youth Ambassador this year. I want to share my love for dance with the community. I also want people to know that dance can be for everyone and it’s never too late to start!
